The blockchain technology founder, Serge Belamant entrepreneurial journey

The revolutionary blockchain technology that today facilitates cryptocurrency was invented by the French-born South African computer scientist and entrepreneur, Serge Belamant. Serge was born in Tulle, France in 1953 but his family moved to South Africa when he was just 14. He studied at the University of Witwatersrand for computer science and applied mathematics after dropping the engineering course he had enrolled for. A promising career beginning

Serge Belamant, unfortunately, did not graduate but despite this, he had an auspicious career beginning. After coming out of school, he was able to land a job at BKSH a division of Matrix, a vast civil engineering company. From BKSH, he went ahead to work at CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research). Serge’s exemplary work at CSIR gave him an opportunity to work at the road planning project covering Pretoria, Witwatersrand, and Vereeniging. Here he was responsible for the computers of the road planning project. Belamant moved on to Control Data where he was made the ESKOM division Head analyst. His career continued with its upward trajectory, and he became a consultant at Bancorp. Here his primary role was risk analysis and management.

An admirable entrepreneurial journey

Once he left employment in 1989, Serge Belamant had an admirable entrepreneurial journey. In the same year, you founded and launched his tech company, Net1 Technologies. Despite the challenges the company faced at the beginning just like any other startup, Serge worked hard to give it a foothold in the market. It was not after that his company landed a major deal from Visa in 1995, and he had to leave for the U.S. to work on the project.

Once the job was done, Serge Belamant returned to South Africa and decided to take his company public. He listed Net1 Technologies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
